Jan van de Meerakker received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Kelvin van Harten tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Espelo HC's zone, Niek Baan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kelvin van Harten came out of the goal and Niek Baan tried to chip the ball over his head. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 22nd minute of the game. One of Espelo HC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Heelsum:s goal. If Yuri Roeters had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jan van de Meerakker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kelvin van Harten having to interfere. In the 42nd minute, Harmen Hulshof hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Espelo HC's Kelvin van Harten proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 47th minute of the match, managed to save Espelo HC from getting a goal against them. When René Staal fell near the penalty area in the 48th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Heelsum's protests and gave René Staal a yellow card for diving instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Yuri Roeters was the one to do the kick off. Gregor Meijs hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. Niek Baan kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Jan van de Meerakker's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kelvin van Harten was relentless in the 64th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Espelo HC's zone, Jan van de Meerakker stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. When Niek Baan came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Heelsum fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Niek Baan couldn't finish the play. Kelvin van Harten showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jan van de Meerakker, who was totally free with the ball in the 74th minute. 78 minutes into the match, Espelo HC's goal looked a bit too open when Niek Baan came free, but Kelvin van Harten reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Heelsum's Niek Baan got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Jef Aerssen charged in rather forcefully in the 85th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jef Aerssen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Thijs Dost took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 86th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Kelvin van Harten. Espelo HC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Kelvin van Harten took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Niek Baan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wim Roelofsen charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wim Roelofsen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Wim Roelofsen hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Kelvin van Harten came out of the goal in the 98th minute to try and stop a shot by Heelsum's Jan van de Meerakker. But to his dismay, Jan van de Meerakker quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0.
