Ħamrun's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dennis Cassar Overend was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luca Cassar Naudi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabian Vascotto having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dennis Cassar Overend to make the kick off. With an all-out effort, Ħamrun's Fabian Vascotto threw himself towards the right post 52 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Dennis Cassar Overend, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Steve Rapa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Ħamrun's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
