Hellmuth Bauschinger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Steven Duxbury having to interfere. After 10 minutes, Sam Günther mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bishop Auckland and the Horbury players grew even worse after the yellow card. Sam Günther kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. In the 11th play minute Les Attenborough came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Liam Mutzel. 1-0. 18 minutes into the match, Les Attenborough had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Liam Mutzel. Bishop Auckland's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Les Attenborough was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. After having played for 28 minutes, Duncan Duckworth managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Horbury's supporters crossed their fingers, but Duncan Duckworth was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 30th minute Hellmuth Bauschinger shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Steven Duxbury saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 34 minutes, Les Attenborough managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Horbury's supporters crossed their fingers, but Les Attenborough was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Duncan Duckworth struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Liam Mutzel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Horbury. Duncan Duckworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Duncan Duckworth stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Duncan Duckworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Liam Mutzel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brian Castledine in the 58th minute of play. Duncan Duckworth sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Liam Mutzel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Duncan Duckworth, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. With his leg Steven Duxbury managed to avoid a goal in the 66thth minute, when Bishop Auckland's Hellmuth Bauschinger fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Duncan Duckworth received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Liam Mutzel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bishop Auckland's Liam Mutzel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Les Attenborough in the 75th minute of play. Les Attenborough might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Liam Mutzel. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Les Attenborough ran back to his position shaking his head. Liam Mutzel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Duncan Duckworth, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Duncan Duckworth's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Liam Mutzel read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 82nd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Duncan Duckworth's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Liam Mutzel was relentless in the 83rd minute of the game. After 86 played minutes Bishop Auckland got a freekick which was hit by Frank von Knyphausen. 88 minutes into the match, Bishop Auckland's goal looked a bit too open when Duncan Duckworth came free, but Liam Mutzel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 90 minutes into the match, Hellmuth Bauschinger notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Horbury's Steven Duxbury. Steven Duxbury was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Les Attenborough had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mattias Hübsch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 98th minute. Steven Duxbury tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Horbury had won after a very even match.
