A collision led to Casavatore getting a freekick after 3 minutes play. Carter Grasso hit a great ball. Daniele Guadagnoli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Fedele Angelini tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alvaro Ruggeri struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Federico Di Tommaso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Casavatore. In the 16th minute, Diego Riva made a precise shot to the right of Federico Di Tommaso. Ancona's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Federico Di Tommaso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alvaro Ruggeri, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 32nd minute Alvaro Ruggeri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Federico Di Tommaso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Daniele Guadagnoli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Casavatore's Fedele Angelini played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniele Guadagnoli in the 46th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Corrado Felli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Fedele Angelini tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 54 minutes into the match, Ancona's goalkeeper Federico Di Tommaso had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Diego Riva. Daniele Guadagnoli's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Fedele Angelini read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Alvaro Ruggeri received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Daniele Guadagnoli sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniele Guadagnoli in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fedele Angelini saved Casavatore from getting behind. Federico Di Tommaso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alvaro Ruggeri, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. 94 minutes into the match, Casavatore's goal looked a bit too open when Corrado Felli came free, but Fedele Angelini reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
