The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Demetrio Pomponio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Alexander Casadei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Demetrio Pomponio in the 7th minute of the match. Comunardo Cauli fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Anthony Costacurta having to interfere. Alexander Casadei showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Davide Giacchetti, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. If Demetrio Pomponio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 43 minutes, Davide Giacchetti managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. San Genesio AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Davide Giacchetti was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Davide Giacchetti recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 48th minute Demetrio Pomponio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alexander Casadei saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Christian Cavallucci to make the kick off. San Genesio AFC's Anthony Costacurta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Comunardo Cauli in the 57th minute of play. Franco Scirea charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Franco Scirea the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 62 played minutes, San Genesio AFC's Arrigo Giampieri shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Alexander Casadei came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in San Genesio AFC reached it. After 64 minutes of play, Seregno's Christian Cavallucci made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Anthony Costacurta was left in no man's land by his defense there! Christian Cavallucci sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Comunardo Cauli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Anthony Costacurta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Davide Giacchetti got free with Alexander Casadei in the 77th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 79 minutes into the match, Seregno's Comunardo Cauli sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Anthony Costacurta narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Anthony Costacurta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Christian Cavallucci, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Franco Scirea was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 81 minutes had been played. The supporters of San Genesio AFC booed when Seregno was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Franco Scirea didn't get a good kick on the ball. Davide Giacchetti received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Alexander Casadei tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 87th minute, Demetrio Pomponio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. During the 88th minute of the match Christian Catena completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Christian Catena a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Christian Catena hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Davide Giacchetti got free with Alexander Casadei in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Davide Giacchetti in the 93rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Alexander Casadei, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When Christian Cavallucci fell near the penalty area in the 94th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Seregno's protests and gave Christian Cavallucci a yellow card for diving instead. Christian Cavallucci kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, San Genesio AFC's Arrigo Giampieri tried to score from far away in the 97th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. San Genesio AFC's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Seregno had won, even though San Genesio AFC had held more of the ball.
