Adriano Beattie's late challenge caught a Voltri's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Adriano Beattie helped the player get up and apologised. Eraldo Chitarroni struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Fortunato Toppi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Voltri. If Amos Latini had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Palermo's Fortunato Toppi got control of the ball when Eraldo Chitarroni tried to sneak it across the goal line. Amedeo Proietti was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 45 minutes into the match. After 45 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Palermo! The score was 2-1 after a penalty in the 48th minute, where Voltri:s Edoardo Fantozzi tricked Palermo:s Fortunato Toppi with a difficult ball by the left post.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Adriano Beattie stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 58 minutes into the game, Voltri's Amos Latini nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Fortunato Toppi made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. Eraldo Chitarroni received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Fortunato Toppi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fortunato Toppi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amos Latini, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Adriano Beattie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfonso Cimino having to interfere. Fortunato Toppi came out of the goal in the 78th minute to try and stop a shot by Voltri's Eraldo Chitarroni. But to his dismay, Eraldo Chitarroni quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-1. In the 85th minute, Voltri's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Adriano Beattie fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. A collision led to Voltri getting a freekick after 86 minutes play. Corrado Fracassi hit a great ball. In the 88th minute, Adriano Beattie got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Voltri's Amos Latini got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Adriano Pietrangelo kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eraldo Chitarroni in the 94th minute of play forced Palermo's goalkeeper Fortunato Toppi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Amos Latini had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Voltri's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
