After a defensive mix-up in Barbiano FC's zone, Edoardo Trinca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emanuele Di Maio came out of the goal and Edoardo Trinca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Carter Colecchia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Alberto Antonini took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ciccio Di Nardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Barbiano FC defense, Edoardo Trinca kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Emanuele Di Maio. The Barbiano FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Emanuele Di Maio should have stopped the shot. Edoardo Trinca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emanuele Di Maio having to interfere. Elia Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. When San Massimo's Carter Colecchia in 39 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Emanuele Di Maio guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. 40 minutes had been played when some careless play by Barbiano FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Emanuele Di Maio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ciccio Di Nardo to make the kick off.
