Enrico Caroselli struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Ermanno Verna didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Castelnuovo. If Fabrizio Sforza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alberigo Chiarelli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fabrizio Sforza, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Antonello Valeri who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 19thth minute tested the skills of Alberigo Chiarelli when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When Antonello Valeri came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Villanova De Bellis fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Antonello Valeri couldn't finish the play. After 26 played minutes Castelnuovo got a freekick which was hit by Armin Ricci. 29 minutes into the game, Christian Martinelli was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Villanova De Bellis's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Castelnuovo the free kick. The supporters of Castelnuovo booed when Villanova De Bellis was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christian Martinelli didn't get a good kick on the ball. Francesco Cappucci took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 30th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ermanno Verna. Villanova De Bellis's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Enrico Caroselli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Ermanno Verna tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ermanno Verna showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Enrico Caroselli in the 33rd minute of the match. Castelnuovo's Alberigo Chiarelli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabrizio Sforza in the 36th minute of play. Antonello Valeri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alberigo Chiarelli having to interfere. Edmondo Cannata's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ermanno Verna read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. If Antonello Valeri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The audience was convinced that Antonello Valeri's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alberigo Chiarelli was relentless in the 58th minute of the game. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Alberigo Chiarelli prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 71st minute, Ennio Manzoli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 75th minute, Enrico Caroselli reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ermanno Verna. The goal made the score 0-1. Villanova De Bellis's Ermanno Verna played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Enrico Caroselli in the 87th minute of play. Alberigo Chiarelli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fabrizio Sforza in the 88th minute of the match. Alberigo Chiarelli showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antonello Valeri, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. When the final whistle went the supporters of Castelnuovo were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Villanova De Bellis side.
