When Amos Russo came up free with the goalie in the 9th minute, the Unione Sportiva Faenza fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Amos Russo couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Ciro Iachini managed to get in a good position for a shot. Us Shangay's supporters rose to their feet, but Ciro Iachini was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Emilio Oddi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Emilio Oddi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antonio Ronca, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Unione Sportiva Faenza's Davide Luongo shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 22nd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Achille Piano but with some difficulty. 28 minutes into the match, Us Shangay's Antonio Ronca sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Emilio Oddi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Antonio Ronca in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Emilio Oddi saved Unione Sportiva Faenza from getting behind. Amos Russo struck a weak shot in the 31st minute. Achille Piano didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Unione Sportiva Faenza. Alessio Iovine sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 36th minute, Alessio Iovine hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Emilio Oddi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Antonio Ronca in the 38th minute of the match. When Federico Baresi fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Unione Sportiva Faenza's protests and gave Federico Baresi a yellow card for diving instead. After 41 played minutes Unione Sportiva Faenza got a freekick which was hit by Federico Baresi. Dennis Antonini recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The Us Shangay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Achille Piano should have stopped the shot. Achille Piano was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The supporters of Us Shangay booed when Unione Sportiva Faenza was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 89 match minutes in a wonderful position. Davide Luongo didn't get a good kick on the ball.
