ACR Messina's supporters rose to their feet, but Alfonso Carta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Achille Maietta breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 10 minutes, Andrea Candeloro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. ACR Messina's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andrea Candeloro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 11 played minutes ACR Messina got a freekick which was hit by Alfonso Carta. 12 minutes into the match, ACR Messina's goal looked a bit too open when Florian Paoletti came free, but Dario Bozzelli reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 13 minutes, Ermanno Mansueto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lupacchiotta FC and the ACR Messina players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 13 played minutes Lupacchiotta FC got a freekick which was hit by Ermanno Mansueto. Alfonso Carta struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Achille Maietta didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for ACR Messina. Alfonso Carta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Andrea Candeloro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Achille Maietta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eraldo Di Berardino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dario Bozzelli having to interfere. With a little luck, Lupacchiotta FC's Achille Maietta got control of the ball when Alfonso Carta tried to sneak it across the goal line. Andrea Candeloro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Achille Maietta having to interfere. A collision led to Lupacchiotta FC getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Eraldo Di Berardino hit a great ball. Lupacchiotta FC's Achille Maietta proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Lupacchiotta FC from getting a goal against them. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Andrea Candeloro made a kick off. ACR Messina's Alfonso Carta got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With his leg Dario Bozzelli managed to avoid a goal in the 57thth minute, when Lupacchiotta FC's Eraldo Di Berardino fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Eraldo Di Berardino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alfonso Carta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Achille Maietta having to interfere. Lupacchiotta FC's Eraldo Di Berardino got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Florian Paoletti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Achille Maietta showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfonso Carta in the 68th minute of the match. Lupacchiotta FC's Ermanno Mansueto got his second yellow card of the match in the 68th minute. The referee ordered Ermanno Mansueto off the ground. In the 69th minute, Ermanno Mansueto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Alfonso Carta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 75 minutes into the match, Lupacchiotta FC's goal looked a bit too open when Andrea Candeloro came free, but Achille Maietta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfonso Carta in the 83rd minute of play forced Lupacchiotta FC's goalkeeper Achille Maietta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 84th minute, ACR Messina's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Eraldo Di Berardino fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Lupacchiotta FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
