Alberigo Topatigh's shot from long distance in the 18th minute was not bad at all, but Viganego's Cesare Fabrizi knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. Viganego were furious when Dennis Cruciani was red carded, 22 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. After the first half Viganego were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Viganego's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
