Spectators: 34 (Terracing: 26, Seating: 8, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Eugenio Di Maria started the match with the kick off. In the 4th match minute, Cavriago FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eugenio Di Maria to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Cavriago FC booed when Montecchio Emilia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felice Troiani didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 10th match minute, Montecchio Emilia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ferruccio Placidi to maneuver through the defense. Bruno Del Greco hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Cavriago FC's Elia Leopardi couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 13th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Montecchio Emilia. When Ferruccio La Marca came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Cavriago FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ferruccio La Marca couldn't finish the play. Cavriago FC's Eugenio Di Maria got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 21 played minutes Montecchio Emilia got a freekick which was hit by Damiano Arcari. 25 minutes into the match, Montecchio Emilia's goalkeeper Alfredo Iob had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ferruccio La Marca. Edmondo Finocchi struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Domenico Taglieri didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Montecchio Emilia. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, Dino Scirea managed to get in a good position for a shot. Montecchio Emilia's supporters rose to their feet, but Dino Scirea was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Domenico Taglieri breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 32 minutes of play, Montecchio Emilia's Edmondo Finocchi made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Domenico Taglieri was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Montecchio Emilia's Ferruccio Placidi got a free kick in the 35th minute. Eugenio Di Maria sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eugenio Di Maria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Alfredo Iob tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Ferruccio La Marca came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Cavriago FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ferruccio La Marca couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ferruccio La Marca got free with Alfredo Iob in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Montecchio Emilia's zone, Eugenio Di Maria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Iob came out of the goal and Eugenio Di Maria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ferruccio La Marca could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Alfredo Iob made a huge save. Eugenio Di Maria sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Ferruccio La Marca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 49th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfredo Iob having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dino Scirea was the one to do the kick off. After 56 played minutes Cavriago FC got a freekick which was hit by Fedele Corsi. Edmondo Finocchi blasted a shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Domenico Taglieri having to make a save. If Dino Scirea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 62 minutes into the game, Montecchio Emilia's Edmondo Finocchi nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Domenico Taglieri made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. Cavriago FC's Domenico Taglieri played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ferruccio Placidi in the 66th minute of play. Domenico Taglieri showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dino Scirea in the 67th minute of the match. Edmondo Finocchi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Domenico Taglieri tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alfredo Iob made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eugenio Di Maria in the 74th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edmondo Finocchi in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Domenico Taglieri saved Cavriago FC from getting behind. Edmondo Finocchi's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Domenico Taglieri read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. The supporters of Cavriago FC booed when Montecchio Emilia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felice Troiani didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dino Scirea in the 88th minute of play forced Cavriago FC's goalkeeper Domenico Taglieri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Dino Scirea had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 92 played minutes Cavriago FC got a freekick which was hit by Alexander Raniolo. Domenico Taglieri showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dino Scirea in the 94th minute of the match. Bruno Del Greco's late challenge caught a Cavriago FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Bruno Del Greco helped the player get up and apologised. Bruno Del Greco kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. The Montecchio Emilia supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Montecchio Emilia would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
