The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Chievo getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Angelo Guaita hit a great ball. Beppe Antonangeli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alvaro Lauria in the 5th minute of the match. Chievo's Beppe Antonangeli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ernesto Panino in the 7th minute of play. In the 7th minute Dino Alonzi clashed with another player. He fell to the ground and was in great pain. It was obvious that he couldn't finish the game. When Angelo Guaita fell near the penalty area in the 7th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Chievo's protests and gave Angelo Guaita a yellow card for diving instead. After 8 played minutes Chievo got a freekick which was hit by Angelo Guaita. Alvaro Lauria fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Beppe Antonangeli having to interfere. A collision led to Chievo getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Angelo Guaita hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ernesto Panino in the 15th minute of play forced Chievo's goalkeeper Beppe Antonangeli to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Beppe Antonangeli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ernesto Panino in the 16th minute of the match. Beppe Antonangeli took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Flavio Gerola, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ernesto Panino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Beppe Antonangeli having to interfere. Ernesto Panino struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Beppe Antonangeli didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chiappa. When Ernesto Panino came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the Chiappa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernesto Panino couldn't finish the play. Ernesto Panino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Beppe Antonangeli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 26th match minute, Chievo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Davide Patricelli to maneuver through the defense. 33 minutes into the game, one of Chievo:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Daniele Pietrantoni fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Beppe Antonangeli having to interfere. Beppe Antonangeli stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ernesto Panino's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ernesto Panino made a kick off. When Ernesto Panino came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Chiappa fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ernesto Panino couldn't finish the play. Aurelio Briganti kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. 62 minutes into the game, Chiappa's Ernesto Panino nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Beppe Antonangeli made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. With a little luck, Chievo's Beppe Antonangeli got control of the ball when Ernesto Panino tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 69th minute, Chievo's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Ernesto Panino fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Beppe Antonangeli was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ernesto Panino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out.
