Alessandro Contaldi came out and tried to block the shot, but Amos Castellani slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 11th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bianco Treglia in the 15th minute of play forced salento regione's goalkeeper Eraldo Florio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 17th match minute, salento regione was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fedele Giuliani to maneuver through the defense. Dino Sacchi was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 17th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. One of salento regione:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Serreta:s goal. 33 minutes into the match, Serreta's goalkeeper Alessandro Contaldi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Eugenio Imperiale. A collision led to Serreta getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Concetto Melfi hit a great ball. Eugenio Imperiale struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Alessandro Contaldi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for salento regione. Concetto Melfi was shown his second yellow card after 37 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 38 played minutes Serreta got a freekick which was hit by Concetto Melfi. Alessandro Contaldi didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eugenio Imperiale went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Biagio Troiani kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. If Bianco Treglia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Federico Cocca was the one to do the kick off. Federico Cocca's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eraldo Florio read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play.
