To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. An unexpected shot in the 32nd minute by Carlo Negrini got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Ernesto Di Paola made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Comunardo Malatesta in the 34th minute of play. After having played for 48 minutes, Dave Fava managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Lazzate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dave Fava was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Comunardo Malatesta stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Beppe Santilli hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lazzate's Flavio Demaria played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Beppe Grandis in the 55th minute of play.
