After a defensive mix-up in Donegaglia's zone, Corrado Natalucci stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edoardo Carlucci came out of the goal and Corrado Natalucci tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Udine's Fabiano Orsi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ferruccio Gigli in the 20th minute of play. 25 minutes into the match, Udine's goalkeeper Fabiano Orsi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ferruccio Gigli. Franco Melito sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 29thth minute of the game Ferruccio Gigli who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Udine's Fabiano Orsi was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Alessandro Castellazzi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ferruccio Gigli received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Fabiano Orsi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Franco Melito fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabiano Orsi having to interfere. Enrico Rosa hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Fabio Colasante placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Donegaglia's Ferruccio Gigli got a good chance for a goal in the 49th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ferruccio Gigli stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpected shot in the 58th minute by Corrado Natalucci got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Franco Melito in the 64th minute of play forced Udine's goalkeeper Fabiano Orsi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Udine's Alberto Torelli got a free kick in the 65th minute. If Ferruccio Gigli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Corrado Natalucci managed to get in a good position for a shot. Udine's supporters rose to their feet, but Corrado Natalucci was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edoardo Carlucci breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 76 minutes into the game, Ciro Cavanna was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Udine's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Donegaglia the free kick. The tension between the Donegaglia and the Udine players grew even worse after the yellow card.
