The Villaricca FC fans' excitement grew in the 38th match minute when Villaricca FC's Frank Balestra looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antonello Andreoli in the 42nd minute of play forced Santa Marinella's goalkeeper Alessio Cicchini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Frank Balestra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Villaricca FC's Ciccio Crisantemo got a free kick in the 55th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Santa Marinella's zone, Antonello Andreoli stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alessio Cicchini came out of the goal and Antonello Andreoli tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Santa Marinella getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Fortunato Sciotto hit a great ball. Alessio Cicchini made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Frank Balestra sent off a good shot on target. Aldo Oberrauch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Frank Balestra came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Villaricca FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Frank Balestra couldn't finish the play.
