Alfonso Pan might have been able to make a better finish in the 12th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Damiano Di Carlo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alfonso Pan ran back to his position shaking his head. Edoardo Basilico received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Aldo Improta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Attilio Cusumano struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Damiano Di Carlo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Varese. Damiano Di Carlo made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Alfonso Pan sent off a good shot on target. If Edoardo Basilico had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute of the match Filippo Riso shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Aldo Improta showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Dino Ruggeri's late challenge caught a Dosso Cavallino FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dino Ruggeri helped the player get up and apologised. After 28 played minutes Varese got a freekick which was hit by Dino Ruggeri. Alex Rotondi charged in rather forcefully in the 71st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alex Rotondi the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Dosso Cavallino FC booed when Varese was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alex Rotondi didn't get a good kick on the ball.
