In the 2nd minute, Fausto Di Giovanni hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 3rd minute Donato Falcioni shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Aldo Improta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Dario De Toni made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfonso Pan in the 25th minute of play. Camillo Felice kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. Augusto Coccia, 28 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 30th minute, Emiliano Valcareggi reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Aldo Improta. The goal made the score 1-0. Aldo Improta made a fantastic save in the 38th minute, when Emiliano Valcareggi sent off a good shot on target. After 40 played minutes, Varese's Carlo Pala shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dario De Toni came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Varese reached it. Dario De Toni showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Attilio Cusumano in the 43rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Rubiera FC's zone, Attilio Cusumano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dario De Toni came out of the goal and Attilio Cusumano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Alfonso Pan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Dario De Toni tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Attilio Cusumano to make the kick off. Attilio Cusumano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 56th minute, Donato Falcioni got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Rubiera FC booed when Varese was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlo Antonioni didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Varese's Alex Rotondi got a free kick in the 60th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Varese's zone, Emiliano Valcareggi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aldo Improta came out of the goal and Emiliano Valcareggi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Camillo Felice kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. If Alvise Tardelli had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Varese getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Carlo Pala hit a great ball. Dario De Toni made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Alfonso Pan sent off a good shot on target. Rubiera FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
