Ponzana's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Recetto the free kick. In the 7th minute, Arrigo Lattanzio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 9 minutes into the match, Ponzana's goalkeeper Achille Como had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ciro Di Piazza. Ciro Di Piazza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 11th minute of the match, but Achille Como made a huge save. Ponzana's Alessandro Santucci got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 24 minutes, Eraldo Polimeno put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Fabiano Pantani. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Damiano Egidi in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Achille Como saved Ponzana from getting behind. Alessandro Santucci might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fabiano Pantani. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alessandro Santucci ran back to his position shaking his head. Alessandro Santucci fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabiano Pantani having to interfere. In the 32nd match minute, Recetto was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Corrado Di Felice to maneuver through the defense. Achille Como made an important save on a dangerous shot by Ciro Di Piazza in the 37th minute. 39 minutes into the match, Damiano Egidi dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Achille Como, 1-1. If Ciro Di Piazza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Alessandro Santucci to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Recetto booed when Ponzana was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Corrado Panino didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 59th minute, Ponzana's Alessandro Santucci ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Fabiano Pantani. Fabiano Pantani yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-2. When Ciro Di Piazza came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Recetto fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ciro Di Piazza couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Damiano Egidi in the 67th minute of play forced Ponzana's goalkeeper Achille Como to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 67th minute, Alvaro Albani hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ciro Di Piazza might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Achille Como. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ciro Di Piazza ran back to his position shaking his head. Achille Como showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ciro Di Piazza in the 71st minute of the match. In the 79th minute Damiano Egidi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Achille Como saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 81 minutes into the match, Ponzana's goal looked a bit too open when Ciro Di Piazza came free, but Achille Como reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Damiano Egidi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Recetto defense, Eraldo Polimeno kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Fabiano Pantani. The Recetto fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Fabiano Pantani should have stopped the shot.
