A collision led to Sale getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Alvise Pocobello hit a great ball. Alvise Valeri received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Flavio Formaggio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Sale's Flavio Formaggio got control of the ball when Fabiano Miconi tried to sneak it across the goal line. Alexander Iacobucci kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Sale's Alvise Pocobello got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Fedele Iannucci had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Flavio Formaggio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alvise Valeri in the 19th minute of play. In the 24th minute, Alvise Pocobello got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 25th minute, Concetto Vanni hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Alvise Pocobello came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Sale fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alvise Pocobello couldn't finish the play. Fabio Facchetti hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Alvise Pocobello sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Sale's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fedele Iannucci was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Alvise Valeri managed to get in a good position for a shot. Recco's supporters rose to their feet, but Alvise Valeri was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Flavio Formaggio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.

With 54 minutes on the clock, Cesare Baratta commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee gave Sale a penalty, 56 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Dave Sciamanna, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Recco's Cristoforo Bearzot. 0-1. Alvise Pocobello fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristoforo Bearzot having to interfere. The attack was good, but when Fabiano Miconi in the 84th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 85th minute, Alexander Iacobucci hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 86 minutes, Fabiano Miconi managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Recco's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fabiano Miconi was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Sale would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
