The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 2 played minutes Újszász got a freekick which was hit by Aurél Erős. Tibor Vadas kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. 10 minutes into the match, Mümtazer Sarvan had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Fülöp Sipos. Újszász's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mümtazer Sarvan was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. After a rather tough play, Újszász's Lukács Mátrai got a free kick in the 16th minute. The supporters of Újszász booed when Southampton U23 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mihály Dénes didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 23 played minutes Újszász got a freekick which was hit by Lukács Mátrai. The long shot by Mihály Dénes in the 28th minute really tested Fülöp Sipos's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. In the 31st minute, Southampton U23's Jeromos Hidegkúti seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Jeromos Hidegkúti the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Southampton U23 protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Jeromos Hidegkúti had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 31 minutes into the game, one of Southampton U23:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Fülöp Sipos acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 41st minute, took the ball on the long shot from Szabolcs Peterdy. Southampton U23's Lajos Lantos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zsolt Bódi in the 43rd minute of play. Róbert Kaszás hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Almiro Queiroga made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kornél Madaras during the 52nd minute. After 69 minutes, Aivar Lipp made it 2-2 with a short kick to the right side. Újszász's Fülöp Sipos tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 71st match minute, Southampton U23 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benedek Veress to maneuver through the defense. Újszász's Kálmán Madaras got a good chance for a goal in the 72nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the last second Lajos Lantos throw himself and got hold of the ball when Rajmund Sági in the 75thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Almiro Queiroga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 81st minute Rajmund Sági shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lajos Lantos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Almiro Queiroga recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Kálmán Madaras could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Lajos Lantos made a huge save. 92 minutes into the game, one of Southampton U23:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kálmán Madaras got free with Lajos Lantos in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
