Šandor Nalis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gradimir Vukomanović in the 18th minute of play. If Gradimir Vukomanović had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in NK KretenizaM's zone, Držislav Furlan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tomo Eskić came out of the goal and Držislav Furlan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Kristijan Krivačić's late challenge caught a HNK Rijeka's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kristijan Krivačić helped the player get up and apologised. In the 35th minute, one of NK KretenizaM:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for NK KretenizaM. The goalkeeper, Tomo Eskić, was totally fooled by HNK Rijeka's Klement Lokas, who 37 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Držislav Furlan made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Dragan Fio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of NK KretenizaM booed when HNK Rijeka was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Šimun Resnik didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a left leg Tomo Eskić saved NK KretenizaM from getting behind. If Držislav Furlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gradimir Vukomanović in the 68th minute of play forced HNK Rijeka's goalkeeper Šandor Nalis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. HNK Rijeka's Šandor Nalis proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save HNK Rijeka from getting a goal against them. Držislav Furlan took the ball and in the 84 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Tomo Eskić. Tomo Eskić dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-0. If Držislav Furlan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Gradimir Vukomanović had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the NK KretenizaM players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for HNK Rijeka.
