When Pierre-Antoine Bonnier fell near the penalty area in the 7th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Millery's protests and gave Pierre-Antoine Bonnier a yellow card for diving instead. After 7 played minutes Millery got a freekick which was hit by Pierre-Antoine Bonnier. Axel Leman might have been able to make a better finish in the 8th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marc Hamann. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Axel Leman ran back to his position shaking his head. Romeo Anselin kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. Marc Hamann showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Leman in the 11th minute of the match. In the 12th minute Barthelemy Drouet shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marc Hamann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 13th minute, Axel Leman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 16th minute, Axel Leman left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hoenheim fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Zinedine Surget made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pierre-Antoine Bonnier in the 20th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Djibril Queron managed to get in a good position for a shot. Millery's supporters rose to their feet, but Djibril Queron was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zinedine Surget breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zinedine Surget made a fantastic save in the 24th minute, when Pierre-Antoine Bonnier sent off a good shot on target. After some careless play in the Hoenheim defense, Pierre-Antoine Bonnier kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Zinedine Surget. The Hoenheim fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Zinedine Surget should have stopped the shot. If Axel Leman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marc Hamann made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Axel Leman in the 42nd minute of play. A collision led to Hoenheim getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Edgard Berthe hit a great ball. 44 minutes into the game, Pierre-Antoine Bonnier cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Zinedine Surget was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Djibril Queron to make the kick off. Marc Hamann stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Barthelemy Drouet's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. Djibril Queron fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zinedine Surget having to interfere. Zinedine Surget showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Djibril Queron, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. In the 61st match minute, Hoenheim was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edgard Berthe to maneuver through the defense. Hoenheim's supporters crossed their fingers, but Axel Leman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Felicien Herpin lost his temper 73 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. A collision led to Millery getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Emile Mouquet hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Millery's zone, Renaud Loaec stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marc Hamann came out of the goal and Renaud Loaec tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Hoenheim's Renaud Loaec got a free kick in the 90th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Djibril Queron managed to get in a good position for a shot. Millery's supporters rose to their feet, but Djibril Queron was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zinedine Surget breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Millery's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
