Xavier Eveno showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joe Derville, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. When John-Paul Galopin came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Elange fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John-Paul Galopin couldn't finish the play. In the 45th minute, Reynald Rougier hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Joël Almeras came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Elange fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Joël Almeras couldn't finish the play. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for John-Paul Galopin to strike the kick off in the second half. Patrice Pépin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from John-Paul Galopin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Elange were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after Guisseray's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mourad Battesti took the corner. The corner ended in Mourad Battesti almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Guisseray's Patrice Pépin did a great save. If John-Paul Galopin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Guisseray's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mourad Battesti ran over to the corner to take the kick. Dove Lemerle hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that John-Paul Galopin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Patrice Pépin was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. Joël Almeras received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 85th minute. Patrice Pépin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
