The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 7th match minute, Somain was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Philibert Vareille to maneuver through the defense. If Brendan Bobin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jean-Marc Verges received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Roland Anselme tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Willy Vautrin hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. When the match clock showed 12 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Blaise Berthe sped through Chavanod's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Roland Anselme. The supporters of Chavanod booed when Somain was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valerien Humblot didn't get a good kick on the ball. In a very dangerous position, a player in Chavanod fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 21st minute. Penalty! In the 30th minute, Somain's Blaise Berthe ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Roland Anselme. Roland Anselme yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-0. After a rather tough play, Somain's Jean-Marc Verges got a free kick in the 32nd minute. After having played for 35 minutes, Blaise Berthe managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Somain's supporters crossed their fingers, but Blaise Berthe was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 37 minutes into the game, Philibert Vareille was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Somain's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Chavanod the free kick. A collision led to Somain getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Philibert Vareille hit a great ball. Pierre-Louis Ahmed fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paul-Henri Calmels having to interfere. 44 minutes into the match, Somain's Blaise Berthe sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Roland Anselme narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Brendan Bobin might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paul-Henri Calmels. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Brendan Bobin ran back to his position shaking his head. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pierre-Louis Ahmed stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Somain's Paul-Henri Calmels proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 51st minute of the match, managed to save Somain from getting a goal against them. Brendan Bobin in the 53rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Paul-Henri Calmels, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. If Jean-Marc Verges had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Roland Anselme came out of the goal in the 58th minute to try and stop a shot by Somain's Blaise Berthe. But to his dismay, Blaise Berthe quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Roland Anselme took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Blaise Berthe, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Blaise Berthe might have been able to make a better finish in the 64th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Roland Anselme. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Blaise Berthe ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by René Aznar in the 67th minute of play forced Somain's goalkeeper Paul-Henri Calmels to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Philibert Vareille was shown his second yellow card after 68 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. A collision led to Somain getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Philibert Vareille hit a great ball. Jean-Marc Verges's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Roland Anselme read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. Jean-Marc Verges sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Michael Chassang came up free with the goalie in the 85th minute, the Somain fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Michael Chassang couldn't finish the play. After some careless play in the Chavanod defense, Jean-Marc Verges kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Roland Anselme. The Chavanod fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Roland Anselme should have stopped the shot. Joris Lebleu got his second yellow card in the match during the 89th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After a rather tough play, Chavanod's Joris Lebleu got a free kick in the 90th minute. There was no doubt that Somain were the better team. Somain's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
