Charly Depoorter fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hocine Mazure having to interfere. Jérôme Filhol received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Hocine Mazure tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. OUED-ZEM's Alphonse Castet proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 18th minute of the match, managed to save OUED-ZEM from getting a goal against them. OUED-ZEM's defense didn't have a chance, in the 24th minute, when Frédéric Chapron scored to the left of an out of position Alphonse Castet, making the score, 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Frédéric Chapron got free with Alphonse Castet in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alphonse Castet made a fantastic save in the 46th minute, when Alain Saidi sent off a good shot on target. After 47 minutes, Jérôme Filhol mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the OUED-ZEM and the Bordeaux players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 47th match minute, OUED-ZEM was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jérôme Filhol to maneuver through the defense. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Charly Depoorter to make the kick off.
