The audience was convinced that Martin Louvrier's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Samuel Cottet was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Hector Vandevoorde fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Samuel Cottet having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Martin Louvrier's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Samuel Cottet was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. In the 17th minute, Stade Rennais FC's Modeste Fanget seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Modeste Fanget the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Stade Rennais FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Modeste Fanget had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 17th minute, Modeste Fanget hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Maurice Grossi kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Raymond Maheo. That made the score 1-0 in the 22 minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Vaumimbert's Cyril Darracq sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Raymond Maheo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 30 played minutes Vaumimbert got a freekick which was hit by Cyril Darracq. After 31 minutes of play, Stade Rennais FC's Martin Louvrier made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Samuel Cottet was left in no man's land by his defense there! Stade Rennais FC's Raymond Maheo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cyril Darracq in the 36th minute of play. With a little luck, Stade Rennais FC's Raymond Maheo got control of the ball when Bryan Lavaux tried to sneak it across the goal line. Stade Rennais FC's Martin Louvrier got a good chance for a goal in the 44th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Martin Louvrier made a kick off. Cyril Darracq sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 58th minute Thierry Reynaert shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Samuel Cottet saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Samuel Cottet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Louvrier in the 60th minute of play. After having played for 61 minutes, Martin Louvrier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Stade Rennais FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Martin Louvrier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Raymond Maheo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cyril Darracq, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Maurice Grossi managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vaumimbert's supporters rose to their feet, but Maurice Grossi was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raymond Maheo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 82 minutes in the game, Martin Louvrier fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Samuel Cottet having to interfere. Thierry Reynaert struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Samuel Cottet didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Stade Rennais FC. In the 86th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vaumimbert's goalkeeper Samuel Cottet, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 87 minutes, Martin Louvrier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Stade Rennais FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Martin Louvrier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vaumimbert succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Stade Rennais FC had controlled the match.
