In the 21st minute, Charlie Chambre got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 23 minutes into the match, Besiktas's Dan Peyraud sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Hugues Gremont narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Karl Walker in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Adil Blache saved Besiktas from getting behind. In the 32nd minute, Patxi Sechet got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Arnold Person fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adil Blache having to interfere. In the 38th match minute, Besiktas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ahmed Collinet to maneuver through the defense. Adil Blache came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by Ascq's Arnold Person. But to his dismay, Arnold Person quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

51 minutes into the match, Ascq's goal looked a bit too open when Patxi Sechet came free, but Hugues Gremont reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match had gone on for 53 minutes, Karl Walker took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Adil Blache to make any attempt to save it. After a defensive mix-up in Ascq's zone, Patxi Sechet stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hugues Gremont came out of the goal and Patxi Sechet tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Hugues Gremont made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patxi Sechet in the 58th minute of play. In the 60th minute Dan Peyraud shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hugues Gremont saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dan Peyraud in the 61st minute of play forced Ascq's goalkeeper Hugues Gremont to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Patxi Sechet sent away a hard shot on goal in the 62nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Adil Blache tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The Ascq supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ascq would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
