The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 5 minutes into the match, Bouquiniére's goal looked a bit too open when Raymond Stevens came free, but Hector Etcheverry reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sidney Mialon tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Hector Etcheverry. An unnecessary self made goal, 0-2 in the 14th minute. In the 23rdth minute of the game Denis Coffin who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Lille's Cyprien Guichaoua was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Denis Coffin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cyprien Guichaoua having to interfere. If Denis Coffin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 33 minutes, Sidney Mialon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bouquiniére and the Lille players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Bouquiniére's Sidney Mialon got a free kick in the 33rd minute. After 38 minutes, Jacob Blonde mouthed his way into the referee's book. A collision led to Bouquiniére getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Jacob Blonde hit a great ball. Aurelien Beuret received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Hector Etcheverry tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Renan Cau fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lille's protests and gave Renan Cau a yellow card for diving instead. In the 46th match minute, Lille was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Renan Cau to maneuver through the defense. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Raymond Stevens to strike the kick off in the second half. Cyprien Guichaoua made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Boidin in the 70th minute of play. Cyprien Guichaoua showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Boidin in the 72nd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Raymond Stevens in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hector Etcheverry prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Aurelien Beuret had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 78th match minute, Bouquiniére was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Denis Coffin to maneuver through the defense. Raymond Stevens struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Hector Etcheverry didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Lille. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Raymond Stevens in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Hector Etcheverry saved Bouquiniére from getting behind.
