Denis Pitiot could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 6th minute of the match, but Thibault Batut made a huge save. Ruben Bourdet recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 9th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Eddy Sablayrolless short, quick shot in the 16thth minute got Thibault Batut to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Éluard Blavette during the 23rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 24th match minute, Rennes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Éluard Blavette to maneuver through the defense. In the 25th minute Pacôme Meier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thibault Batut saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pacôme Meier struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Thibault Batut didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Illies. Paul-Henri Debove stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dimitri Bernhard's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. In the 34th minute the ball was on its way in behind Illies's goalkeeper Paul-Henri Debove, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 36 minutes, Ruben Bourdet mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Rennes and the Illies players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 40th minute, Dimitri Bernhard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dorian Nedelec charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dorian Nedelec the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Illies getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Dorian Nedelec hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ruben Bourdet in the 47th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paul-Henri Debove saved Illies from getting behind. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Pacôme Meier made the kick off in the second half. Thibault Batut made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eddy Sablayrolles in the 51st minute of play. In the 53rd match minute, Illies was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marouane Bellay to maneuver through the defense. Florent Baudel, 54 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Dimitri Bernhard struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Paul-Henri Debove didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rennes. Paul-Henri Debove took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruben Bourdet, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Illies getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Marouane Bellay hit a great ball. The supporters of Illies booed when Rennes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hector Desir didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eddy Sablayrolles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Thibault Batut having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Aymerick Daviau during the 66th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Rennes getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Aymerick Daviau hit a great ball. Thibault Batut stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eddy Sablayrolles's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. Pacôme Meier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Thibault Batut having to interfere. Rennes's Éluard Blavette got his second yellow card of the match in the 80th minute. The referee ordered Éluard Blavette off the ground. After 81 played minutes Rennes got a freekick which was hit by Éluard Blavette. After having played for 82 minutes, Eddy Sablayrolles managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Illies's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eddy Sablayrolles was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dimitri Bernhard got free with Paul-Henri Debove in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 94th match minute, Rennes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Flavien Peres to maneuver through the defense. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
