With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wilfried Prou prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Gruson getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Quentin Étourneau hit a great ball. Ramzi Saint-Léger hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. Ramzi Saint-Léger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, Nîmes's Blaise Cave got control of the ball when Abraham Nau tried to sneak it across the goal line. Blaise Cave took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patrick Falco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 17th minute Danny Claisse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wilfried Prou saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Alex Font had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Sébastien Père struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Wilfried Prou didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Nîmes. When Nîmes's Danny Claisse in the 30th minute got a chance for a shot 30th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Gruson's goalie prevented a goal. Danny Claisse received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Wilfried Prou tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alex Font fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilfried Prou having to interfere. Blaise Cave showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patrick Falco in the 40th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Nîmes's zone, Patrick Falco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Blaise Cave came out of the goal and Patrick Falco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Alex Font sped through Gruson's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Wilfried Prou. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Patrick Falco was the one to do the kick off. Alex Font fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilfried Prou having to interfere. Wilfried Prou was a little too slow when Sébastien Père got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 59th minute. The score was now 0-2. Alex Font received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Wilfried Prou tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ramzi Saint-Léger in the 75th minute of play forced Nîmes's goalkeeper Blaise Cave to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Félicien Untereiner during the 76th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Gruson's Félicien Untereiner got a free kick in the 76th minute. Nîmes's Alex Font got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 82 minutes, Patrick Falco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gruson's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patrick Falco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ramzi Saint-Léger sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patrick Falco in the 92nd minute of play forced Nîmes's goalkeeper Blaise Cave to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wilfried Prou stood somewhat misplaced when Danny Claisse came free in front of goal and shot 0-3 to the left of him in the 94 minute.
