When Honoré Hochart came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Rennes fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Honoré Hochart couldn't finish the play. In the 14th minute, Tim Vinay hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 16th minute, Hector Gagnaire got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 19 played minutes Rennes got a freekick which was hit by Redouane Ménier. Hector Gagnaire fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Quentin Sagnard having to interfere. When Tommy Favard fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ceyrat's protests and gave Tommy Favard a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Rennes booed when Ceyrat was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tommy Favard didn't get a good kick on the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Aimé Locatelli in the 73rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of William Chevallier, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Ceyrat's Tim Vinay got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
