The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Montpellier defense, Fabien Spielmann kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hector Pirat. The Montpellier fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hector Pirat should have stopped the shot. Fabien Spielmann's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hector Pirat read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. In the 9th minute Fabien Spielmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hector Pirat saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Omer Rimbault's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hector Pirat was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Fabien Spielmann recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Omer Rimbault received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Hector Pirat tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Montpellier's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 46th minute, Côme Choux reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Camille Gaudefroy. The goal made the score 1-3. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Côme Choux stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Fabien Spielmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Omer Rimbault had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Camille Gaudefroy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Côme Choux, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Gauthier Roturier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Montpellier booed when Villemomble was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joey Lallemant didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fabien Spielmann in the 76th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Hector Pirat prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The crowd rose to their feet as Fabien Spielmann kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Hector Pirat. That made the score 2-4 in the 79 minute of play. Hector Pirat made a fantastic save in the 82nd minute, when Omer Rimbault sent off a good shot on target. When Fabien Spielmann came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Villemomble fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fabien Spielmann couldn't finish the play. Côme Choux sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Côme Choux came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Montpellier fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Côme Choux couldn't finish the play. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Villemomble eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
