Atilano Grau made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jerrald Japón in the 23rd minute of play. In the 25th minute, Hussein Aguilar left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mavericks fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. If Bibiano Herrero had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. After 35 minutes, Cordareo Domingo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mavericks and the REAL SOCIEDAD players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 35 played minutes Mavericks got a freekick which was hit by Cordareo Domingo. Atilano Grau came out of the goal in the 39th minute to try and stop a shot by Mavericks's Hussein Aguilar. But to his dismay, Hussein Aguilar quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Bibiano Herrero stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Mavericks's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
