The Real Santander CF fans' excitement grew in the 21st match minute when Real Santander CF's Aristeo Vuelta looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 25 played minutes Málaga got a freekick which was hit by Alfons Noya. After a rather tough play, Real Santander CF's Aristeo Vuelta got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Ramón Zapico recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Málaga's zone, Aristeo Vuelta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eusebio Valcarcel came out of the goal and Aristeo Vuelta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 67 minutes into the match, Málaga's goalkeeper Eusebio Valcarcel had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Aquiles Suarez. Málaga's defense didn't have a chance, in the 69th minute, when Aristeo Vuelta scored to the left of an out of position Eusebio Valcarcel, making the score, 2-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Costante Alfaro in the 75th minute of play forced Real Santander CF's goalkeeper René Pais to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ekhi Esteban during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 78 played minutes Málaga got a freekick which was hit by Ekhi Esteban. When Gorri Jaen came up free with the goalie in the 82nd minute, the Málaga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gorri Jaen couldn't finish the play. Málaga's Gorri Jaen got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 84th minute, Aquiles Suarez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 89 played minutes Real Santander CF got a freekick which was hit by Silvano Japón. In the 92nd match minute, Real Santander CF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivón Fresnos to maneuver through the defense. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
