In the 3rd minute, Luis Toxeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Rayo Belmontino's zone, Vincent Ponce stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bernardo Buendia came out of the goal and Vincent Ponce tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eugenio Carro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Bernardo Buendia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Mas De Fuentes's Edelmiro Darroja got a free kick in the 8th minute. Fausto Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Romulo Mondejar went, in the 9th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The supporters of Rayo Belmontino booed when Mas De Fuentes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edelmiro Darroja didn't get a good kick on the ball. Illan Bermudez's late challenge caught a Rayo Belmontino's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Illan Bermudez helped the player get up and apologised. In the 24th minute, Emilio Rosario got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rayo Belmontino's Bernardo Buendia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Rayo Belmontino from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Rayo Belmontino's Bernardo Buendia got control of the ball when Eugenio Carro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Chepe Bacete hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. Eugenio Carro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Bernardo Buendia made a huge save. In the 36th minute Emilio Rosario shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 37th minute, Chepe Bacete got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Fausto Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chepe Bacete, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Emilio Rosario fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fausto Sanz having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Chepe Bacete in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fausto Sanz saved Mas De Fuentes from getting behind. Emilio Rosario received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Fausto Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Chepe Bacete sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Emilio Rosario stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Emilio Rosario sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mas De Fuentes's Fausto Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chepe Bacete in the 56th minute of play. Viviano Abad received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Bernardo Buendia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edelmiro Darroja in the 97th minute of play forced Rayo Belmontino's goalkeeper Bernardo Buendia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
