Gorka Ponte came out of the goal and Salvador Zubizarreta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 17 minutes, Lalla Abascal mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the E.F.S. and the España de Burgos players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to E.F.S. getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Lalla Abascal hit a great ball. Americo Clemente recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 19th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 21st minute, Giraldo Candela hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gorka Ponte showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Salvador Zubizarreta in the 23rd minute of the match. In the 48th minute, Uxio Turrilla hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Americo Clemente made a kick off. Americo Clemente sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 56 minutes into the match, E.F.S.'s goal looked a bit too open when Americo Clemente came free, but Gorka Ponte reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julián Casas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Belo Moreno in the 60th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Americo Clemente in the 65th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gorka Ponte prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 73rd minute, Anchel Morientes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Americo Clemente received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Gorka Ponte tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Gorka Ponte showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Americo Clemente's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gorka Ponte read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 81st minute of play. After 83 played minutes E.F.S. got a freekick which was hit by Belo Moreno. Gorka Ponte took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Americo Clemente, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 91st minute, Americo Clemente got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Americo Clemente sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. España de Burgos's defense didn't have a chance, in the 97th minute, when Mancio Marrero scored to the left of an out of position Julián Casas, making the score, 1-1. Despite being the better team, España de Burgos failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
