Apellaniz's Marek van Basten played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maximiliano Errando in the 32nd minute of play. In the 33rd match minute, Real Madrid FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Chus Orozco to maneuver through the defense. The referee showed Mino Martinez the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Aristides Roca was slow to take the kick. During this time Apellaniz's players had a chance to rest. Marek van Basten breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Maximiliano Errando's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marek van Basten read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. After 92 minutes of play Apellaniz's Ferdinand Quijana was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Real Madrid FC booed when Apellaniz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ferdinand Quijana didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Maximiliano Errando had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Apellaniz supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Real Madrid FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Real Madrid FC.
