In the 14th minute the ball was on its way in behind Selorio SAD's goalkeeper Venancio Irureta, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Arturo Cardeñosa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Venancio Irureta was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ilixo Galego got free with Venancio Irureta in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of El Plantio AFC booed when Selorio SAD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isidro Rua didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ilixo Galego in the 38th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Venancio Irureta prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 39th minute Arturo Cardeñosa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Venancio Irureta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Venancio Irureta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arturo Cardeñosa, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
