Xicu Marques started the match with the kick off. Amancio Cacheres took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Xicu Marques, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Ruperto Morientes came up free with the goalie in the 14th minute, the Portbou AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ruperto Morientes couldn't finish the play. 16 minutes into the match, Portbou AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Casimiro Sampil came free, but Gaizka Noya reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, Portbou AFC's Aloisio Carmona got a free kick in the 17th minute. In the 19th minute, Aloisio Carmona hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 22 played minutes Portbou AFC got a freekick which was hit by Mitxel Arraz. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Argueso SAD's goalkeeper Amancio Cacheres, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Amancio Cacheres showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ruperto Morientes, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. The supporters of Portbou AFC booed when Argueso SAD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonides Bermejo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Ruperto Morientes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Amancio Cacheres was relentless in the 42nd minute of the game. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

After having played for 53 minutes, Servando Guasch managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Argueso SAD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Servando Guasch was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Ruperto Morientes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Xicu Marques got free in front of the goal in the 58th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Amancio Cacheres was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Ruperto Morientes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Amancio Cacheres read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 60th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Iosu Torres during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 61st minute, Iosu Torres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Argueso SAD booed when Portbou AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Xicu Marques didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Mitxel Arraz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Portbou AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Mitxel Arraz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amancio Cacheres breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ruperto Morientes struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Amancio Cacheres didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portbou AFC. Casimiro Sampil fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gaizka Noya having to interfere.
