The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After a rather tough play, Wien1886's Toralf Melber got a free kick in the 4th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Wien1886's zone, Jonas Paulmann stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Klaus Sachs came out of the goal and Jonas Paulmann tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Klaus Sachs showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robin Spengler in the 6th minute of the match. When Arthur Ceylan fell near the penalty area in the 10th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wien1886's protests and gave Arthur Ceylan a yellow card for diving instead. Arthur Ceylan hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. In the 11th minute of the match Maxi Suhrke shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Klaus Sachs showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robin Spengler in the 14th minute of play forced Wien1886's goalkeeper Klaus Sachs to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Jonas Paulmann managed to get in a good position for a shot. Burgdorf's supporters rose to their feet, but Jonas Paulmann was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Klaus Sachs breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Lüder Sinning kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Jonas Paulmann sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Wien1886's Klaus Sachs played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jonas Paulmann in the 21st minute of play. Roswin Göller fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Michael Wigenbusch having to interfere. Wien1886's Klaus Sachs played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Robin Spengler in the 26th minute of play. After 30 played minutes Burgdorf got a freekick which was hit by Ulf Große. In the 33rd minute, Arthur Ceylan ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Michael Wigenbusch was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. The supporters of Burgdorf booed when Wien1886 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Walther Ziegel didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arthur Ceylan in the 40th minute of play forced Burgdorf's goalkeeper Michael Wigenbusch to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jonas Paulmann struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Klaus Sachs didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Burgdorf. If Lüder Sinning had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Jonas Paulmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jonas Paulmann to make the kick off. Wien1886's Lüder Sinning got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 59 minutes into the match, Burgdorf's goal looked a bit too open when Lüder Sinning came free, but Michael Wigenbusch reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 63 minutes into the match, Burgdorf's Robin Spengler sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Klaus Sachs narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Walther Ziegel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Michael Wigenbusch tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Burgdorf's Ulf Große got a free kick in the 73rd minute. If Robin Spengler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpected shot in the 80th minute by Jonas Paulmann got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 84 minutes into the match, Burgdorf's goal looked a bit too open when Arthur Ceylan came free, but Michael Wigenbusch reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 88th minute, Arthur Ceylan got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Klaus Sachs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jonas Paulmann, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jonas Paulmann received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Klaus Sachs tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Burgdorf's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
