After a rather tough play, 1.FC Magdeburg's Joscha Raimann got a free kick in the 5th minute. Ole Zutt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dennis Ewert in the 6th minute of play. Wilken Stark hit a great ball. 1.FC Magdeburg's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when Dennis Ewert scored to the left of an out of position Ole Zutt, making the score, 1-0. In the 21st minute, Dennis Ewert fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. If Raphael Pilz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of 1.FC Magdeburg booed when Volley was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christian Mensinger didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hugo Frister in the 30th minute of play forced Volley's goalkeeper Jens Fickenwirth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 44 minutes of play, Volley's Friedrich Tetzner made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ole Zutt was left in no man's land by his defense there! The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dennis Ewert stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jens Fickenwirth made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when Hugo Frister sent off a good shot on target. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Raphael Pilz managed to get in a good position for a shot. 1.FC Magdeburg's supporters rose to their feet, but Raphael Pilz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jens Fickenwirth breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 67th minute, Holger Schwabe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 71st minute Hinnerk Schultz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ole Zutt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
