Borussia Dortmund's Armand Stengert couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 10th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Elxleben FSV. Günter Krull received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Jürg Rathmer tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Günter Krull had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Günter Krull fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jürg Rathmer having to interfere. After having played for 26 minutes, Leonhard Huschbeck managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Elxleben FSV's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leonhard Huschbeck was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Leonhard Huschbeck fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vitus Heerwagen having to interfere. Vitus Heerwagen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leonhard Huschbeck in the 32nd minute of the match. Borussia Dortmund's Vitus Heerwagen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leonhard Huschbeck in the 40th minute of play. If Leonhard Huschbeck had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Elxleben FSV's Opus Dregler was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Vitus Heerwagen in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sascha Letsche in the 48th minute of play forced Elxleben FSV's goalkeeper Jürg Rathmer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jack Ahrendt during the 56th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Elxleben FSV fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 55th minute. Penalty! The goalkeeper, Jürg Rathmer, was totally fooled by Borussia Dortmund's Armand Stengert, who 57 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 87th minute, Heribert Gross got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Elxleben FSV's Jürg Rathmer proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Elxleben FSV from getting a goal against them.
