When Freddi Scholten fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vélez Sarsfield's protests and gave Freddi Scholten a yellow card for diving instead. In the 38th match minute, Albtal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fritz Ernst Eisele to maneuver through the defense. If Freddi Scholten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 44th minute, Freddi Scholten managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vélez Sarsfield's supporters rose to their feet, but Freddi Scholten was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Robin Nölting breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Freddi Scholten to make the kick off. Vélez Sarsfield's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Pirmin Trenkel was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Albtal's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
