VFL Wolfsburg's Rolf Merkmann proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save VFL Wolfsburg from getting a goal against them. Rolf Merkmann made an important save on a dangerous shot by Blaise Schichholz in the 41st minute. After 42 played minutes VFL Wolfsburg got a freekick which was hit by Dimitrios Kielholz.

The wind increased when Caspar Bomm made the kick off in the second half. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 69th minute of the game. One of VFL Wolfsburg:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Niederkleen:s goal. In the 70th minute there was a penalty for Niederkleen. Dietbald Goldkuhle stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Rolf Merkmann. 4-0. After 74 played minutes, VFL Wolfsburg's Tibor Schulcz shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Henri Klemme came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in VFL Wolfsburg reached it. Niederkleen's Henri Klemme played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olaf Webers in the 75th minute of play. A very good chance. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Niederkleen fully deserved thier win.
