After a defensive mix-up in Köln's zone, Arne Westermayer stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Matthias Böwering came out of the goal and Arne Westermayer tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Köln fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Matthias Böwering should have stopped the shot. A collision led to Köln getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Meirehmen FSV's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Jeremias Andreowsky 42 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jeremias Andreowsky made a kick off. A collision led to Meirehmen FSV getting a freekick after 51 minutes play.
