When Pinkus Bürklen came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pinkus Bürklen couldn't finish the play. Fabian Fabisch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hugo Mrosek having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Marco Hofner's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Berti Rammert was relentless in the 18th minute of the game. After having played for 20 minutes, Uno Krei managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. dortmund's supporters crossed their fingers, but Uno Krei was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 24th minute, Fabian Fabisch ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Hugo Mrosek was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 28th match minute, dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ingmar Rautert to maneuver through the defense. Goddelsbach's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Fabian Fabisch was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Olaf Kruppke got free with Berti Rammert in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Gernot Franke received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Berti Rammert came out and tried to block the shot, but Gernot Franke slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 40th minute. When Lasse Jensch fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored dortmund's protests and gave Lasse Jensch a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Goddelsbach booed when dortmund was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lasse Jensch didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half dortmund were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Pinkus Bürklen to strike the kick off in the second half. With an all-out effort, dortmund's Hugo Mrosek threw himself towards the right post 52 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Pinkus Bürklen, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Irvin Heiske couldn't finish the play. In the 66th minute, Bartolomeo Fiedler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After recieving a nice pass, dortmund's Pinkus Bürklen tried to score from far away in the 67th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Marco Hofner kicked well hit freekick during the 70th minute of the match. In the 71st minute, Pinkus Bürklen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 74th minute Marco Hofner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Berti Rammert saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 76 minutes, Gernot Franke managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Goddelsbach's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gernot Franke was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Marco Hofner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paulo Koewius made in the 95th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by dortmund's Ingmar Rautert. Ingmar Rautert struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Hugo Mrosek didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for dortmund. dortmund's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
