The supporters of 1.FC Union Berlin booed when Hörsten was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Björn Färber didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Gerald Ringelnatz came up free with the goalie in the 15th minute, the Hörsten fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gerald Ringelnatz couldn't finish the play. Gerald Ringelnatz might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benjamin Fischer. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gerald Ringelnatz ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 23rd minute, Gaston Dieckmann managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hörsten's supporters rose to their feet, but Gaston Dieckmann was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benjamin Fischer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jürgen Wienecke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Michael Gillen having to interfere. When Jürgen Wienecke came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the 1.FC Union Berlin fans jumped to their feet. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jürgen Wienecke in the 28th minute of play forced Hörsten's goalkeeper Michael Gillen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gaston Dieckmann's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 31stth minute, Benjamin Fischer skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Gaston Dieckmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benjamin Fischer having to interfere. 40 minutes into the match, 1.FC Union Berlin's goalkeeper Benjamin Fischer had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gaston Dieckmann. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jürgen Wienecke in the 48th minute of play forced Hörsten's goalkeeper Michael Gillen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jürgen Wienecke stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 1.FC Union Berlin's Thomas Roßmüller shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 53rd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Michael Gillen but with some difficulty. Gaston Dieckmann scored 1-0 in the 60th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benjamin Fischer, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Benjamin Fischer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gaston Dieckmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. In the 73rd minute, Mischa Simpson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Jürgen Wienecke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Benjamin Fischer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gaston Dieckmann, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. When Ergün Erler fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored 1.FC Union Berlin's protests and gave Ergün Erler a yellow card for diving instead. After 80 played minutes 1.FC Union Berlin got a freekick which was hit by Ergün Erler. Hörsten's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jason Freund in the 83rd minute. The corner led Hörsten's Jason Freund to fire away a dangerous shot which Benjamin Fischer despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Michael Gillen was a little too slow when Jürgen Wienecke got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 86th minute. The score was now 1-1. Gaston Dieckmann fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benjamin Fischer having to interfere.
