Jeff Westerwelle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hippo Bucher in the 13th minute of the match. Fredo Verheyen took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Norbert Dorn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 16th minute Norbert Dorn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fredo Verheyen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 17 minutes had been played when some careless play by Maschhaupt FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ibrahim Caspers was slow to take the kick. During this time Elberfelder FC's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Ibrahim Caspers almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Maschhaupt FC's Fredo Verheyen did a great save. Dennis Pangerl struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Fredo Verheyen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Elberfelder FC. In the 24th minute of the match Ibrahim Caspers sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fredo Verheyen skillfully saved the ball. Dennis Pangerl sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 32nd minute Norbert Dorn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fredo Verheyen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dennis Pangerl got free with Fredo Verheyen in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 34th minute Elard Krumbe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fredo Verheyen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 36 minutes into the match, Mario Brockschmidt had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jeff Westerwelle. Elberfelder FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mario Brockschmidt was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. It seemed to be an obvious goal in the 47th minute, but Fredo Verheyen got his fingers on the ball or the save, leaving Maschhaupt FC hanging dry this time. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hippo Bucher was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Guido Pawellek in the 53rd minute of play forced Elberfelder FC's goalkeeper Jeff Westerwelle to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mario Brockschmidt struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Jeff Westerwelle didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Maschhaupt FC. Maschhaupt FC's Guido Pawellek got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fredo Verheyen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dennis Pangerl in the 58th minute of play. In the 60th minute, Maschhaupt FC's Federico Kunter seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Federico Kunter the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Maschhaupt FC protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Federico Kunter had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 59 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Maschhaupt FC! Maschhaupt FC's Fredo Verheyen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norbert Dorn in the 67th minute of play. When Björn Kunert came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Maschhaupt FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Björn Kunert couldn't finish the play. Paul Götze scored 3-1 in the 70th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Fredo Verheyen, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 78 minutes into the game, Björn Kunert was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Maschhaupt FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Elberfelder FC the free kick. The supporters of Elberfelder FC booed when Maschhaupt FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Björn Kunert didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 87th minute, Dennis Pangerl managed to get in a good position for a shot. Elberfelder FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Dennis Pangerl was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fredo Verheyen breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Dennis Pangerl recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Dennis Pangerl sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
